Step into tomorrow’s technology
Imagine leading the charge in nanoimprint lithography—driving advancements that touch everything from AR/VR smart glasses and AI data centers to cutting-edge biosensors and microLEDs. SCIL Nanoimprint Solutions, a spin-out from Philips, has innovation running through its veins. Our mission? Empower high-volume manufacturing clients across diverse industries with technology that transforms possibilities.
Based at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, the heart of Europe’s tech scene, we’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer to take ownership of the hardware development for our next-generation systems. Join us, and let’s shape the future together!
Your mission
As a Senior Mechanical Designer in our fast-moving start-up team, you take end-to-end responsibility for the design, realization and testing of mechanical systems, modules and components for our products and prototypes. You work closely with the System Architect, Project Manager, and multidisciplinary engineering team to translate ambitious concepts into robust, manufacturable solutions.
In this role, you independently organize your work and design reviews, contribute to technical decision-making, and guide less experienced colleagues, contractors and trainees. You combine strong mechanical fundamentals with hands-on execution, systems thinking, and the flexibility needed in a small high-tech environment.
Here’s how you’ll contribute:
·Design ownership: Design, realize and test mechanical parts, modules and system components in line with project and departmental procedures.
· Shaping your own role: Take ownership of your assigned work package by defining the approach, aligning scope and deliverables, planning activities, monitoring progress, and proactively managing technical risks and quality.
· Design reviews: Organize and lead reciprocal design reviews with colleagues, and actively participate in reviews with the System Architect / CTO / COO.
Multidisciplinary integration: Integrate mechanical designs with electronics, software and manufacturing, and help bridge solutions across disciplines.
Cross-discipline judgment: Review and challenge technical solutions in adjacent disciplines and contribute to trade-offs at system level.
Build & iteration support: Support prototype builds, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and rapid design iterations.
Risk management: Report potential delays, technical issues or budget risks in time and propose practical mitigation actions.
Stakeholder communication: Clearly communicate technical approaches, design choices and risks to internal and external stakeholders, suppliers and management.
Coaching & guidance: Coach junior colleagues and project team members, and provide functional guidance to team members or external partners when relevant.
Your expertise and qualities
We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer with a proven track record in designing and delivering complex mechanical systems in a high-tech environment, combined with the ability to bring technical depth, ownership and team guidance. To be successful, you have the following experiences;
Educational foundation: Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years / Master’s degree with 7+ years, in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Precision engineering: Solid understanding of mechanical tolerances, GD&T, material selection, and precision design principles.
Manufacturability expertise: Strong knowledge of mechanical part manufacturability and mechanical assembly design.
3D CAD mastery: Proficient in 3D CAD modeling, preferably in NX / Teamcenter.
Engineering methods: Hands-on experience with DFM/DFA and FMEA (required); familiarity with 8D and DoE is highly appreciated.
Systems thinking: Capable of performing theoretical studies of critical parameters and making sound technical trade-offs.
Leadership & collaboration: Able to guide less experienced colleagues, work constructively in reviews, and advocate ideas with colleagues, management, customers and suppliers.
Languages: Strong proficiency in English; Dutch is a plus.
Elements that are a nice-to-have: Experience with, or strong interest in, thermal and/or mechanical simulations. Familiarity with semiconductor equipment and manufacturing environments (including cleanroom-compatible design and particle generation prevention).
