Your mission
As our new Financial Controller, you will play a key role in strengthening and further building the financial backbone of SCIL.
This is not a corporate finance role with large teams and fully developed processes already in place. SCIL is a young and growing company, which means the finance structure still needs to be shaped. We are looking for someone who is comfortable in an environment where not everything is defined yet — someone who does not wait for structure, but enjoys creating it.
The foundation of this role is finance, accounting, reporting and control. Roughly 70% of your focus will be on financial control: accurate reporting, management accounts, cash flow, payments, payroll, cost insight and scalable finance processes. The remaining 30% is about business partnering: understanding the story behind the numbers and translating financial insights into better decisions for the business.
You are not a pure accountant, but you do need a strong accounting foundation. You are someone who can get the numbers right, create clarity and then help the business understand what those numbers mean.
In the first phase, the role will strongly focus on building and strengthening the financial foundation. As SCIL continues to grow and the finance structure becomes more mature, the role is expected to stretch further towards business control, with increasing involvement in business partnering, decision support and translating financial insights into commercial and operational impact.
You are outgoing, curious and confident to step into the business, ask questions, challenge assumptions and work closely with different departments.
Key responsibilities

Strengthen financial reporting, management accounts and monthly closing processes;
Monitor cash flow, working capital, payments and payroll coordination;
Improve finance processes and support ERP-related process development;
Support project accounting, cost insight and reporting;
Provide financial transparency on product, project and supplier costs;
Support financial planning, budgeting and reporting activities;
Work closely with R&D, Operations, Sales and leadership to explain financial performance and support decision-making;
Support stakeholder reporting, including RVO Innovation Credit and shareholder reporting;
Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements;
Explore the use of AI within financial reporting and finance processes.
Your expertise and qualities
To be successful in this role, you combine financial accuracy with curiosity, ownership and a hands-on mindset.
Educational background: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business economics or a related field. A relevant accounting or controlling qualification is a plus;
Professional experience: 5–8 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, audit, financial control or accountancy, preferably in the Netherlands;
Strong accounting foundation: You are confident with accounting, reporting, reconciliations, monthly closing and internal controls;
Financial control: You understand management accounts, cash flow, working capital and budgeting;
Business curiosity: You want to understand the story behind the numbers and how finance can support better business decisions;
Process mindset: You enjoy creating structure, improving processes and making finance more scalable;
Communication: You can explain financial insights clearly to non-financial stakeholders;
Hands-on attitude: You are pragmatic, proactive and comfortable in an environment where not everything is fully defined yet;
Builder mentality: You do not need a fully developed structure around you — you enjoy helping to build one;

Experience in a high-tech, manufacturing, project-based or scale-up environment is a plus.
